Reluctant Admiration14th December 1772 Oil on canvas 20" x 40" (51 cm x 101.5 cm) In the morning Captain Cook's Resolution and Adventure were stopped by an immense field of ice. The men could see no end to it in either direction. They bore south-easterly, following along its edge. Many large icebergs were trapped in the pack ice. Sold at Christies' Maritime Sale, May 1991. |
